About the project

Through this project, Forging Resilience in Andalusia, has contributed to climate change adaptation and resilience in Andalusia through the development of a portfolio of initiatives and innovation positions for this autonomous community. This project was part of an initiative that also shared the same purpose in three other particularly vulnerable European regions: the Glasgow City Region, New Aquitaine and the Dolomites. The project was also aligned with the elaboration of the Andalusian Climate Action Plan and was a tool at the service of the regional government and the Junta de Andalucía.

The project has followed the Deep Demonstration methodology developed by EIT Climate-KIC, which divides the project process into four phases, of which the first two were developed: intent (preparatory phase to establish the directionality, scope, vision and objectives for systemic change), frame (stage in which the field for innovative action is defined, building knowledge through the definition of positions on which to act to achieve the vision). The third and fourth phases of the process are: the portfolio (phase in which an initial selection of innovative initiatives is activated from a portfolio composition perspective) and the intelligence phase (resulting stage in which knowledge and learning from experience is generated).

Methodology

The project methodology also integrates different tools to put them at the service of climate change adaptation:

The systemic analysis of risks that addresses not only the processes and elements of the territory but also their interrelationships to identify positive and negative feedback loops from the point of view of impacts in order to identify levers for change.
A transformational rather than incremental perspective on climate change adaptation that emphasizes the need to coordinate different projects and initiatives to have the necessary impact to reach a shared vision.
A demand-led approach working with entities acting as "challenge owners" who work on the co-design of the project and its results.

For this purpose, different products were generated:

Compilation of existing and planned projects based on the analysis of the results of an Expression of Interest, the mapping of regional initiatives and a participatory project recognition exercise.
Portfolio of innovative adaptation and resilience initiatives for the region of Andalusia based on a systemic analysis of climate change-related risks aligned with regional policies and the programs and approaches developed by the EU.
Carrying out a public participation process aligned with the consultation and public exposure phase of the Andalusian Climate Action Plan through different online workshops, aimed at contributing to the diagnosis of climate-related risks in Andalusia and developing a roadmap for adaptation and resilience of the territory.
Development of a continuity plan that includes the search for resources through the development of a LIFE-IP application and a H2020 program.
