About the project

The consultancy work “Scenarios of the impact of future climate on the coffee cultivation of the grassroots cooperatives of the Entre Mujeres Foundation”, briefly called Café FEM, is part of the work financed by the project “Strengthening the capacities of Nicaraguan rural women for a dignified, sustainable and violence-free life” financed by the Spanish Agency for International Cooperation for Development (AECID).

Objectives

For this project, a diagnosis has been carried out on how meteorological and climatological conditions affect coffee in the project’s intervention zone, and an update of climate change scenarios has been prepared at the local level in the project’s intervention zones. Subsequently, a catalog of agro-climatic indices has been designed to evaluate the potential impact of climate change on the different phenological stages of coffee, its production chain and commercialization, with special emphasis on technical, productive and product management. Subsequently, based on the analysis of the potential impacts of the future climate, strategies and adaptation measures were defined for the short and long term for the different phenological stages of coffee. Strategies and measures aimed at strengthening the technical and productive capacities of women cooperative members, as well as contributing to the sustainability of the grassroots cooperatives of the Entre Mujeres Foundation (FEM).
