About the project

The objective of the Climate Change Scenarios in Andalusia 2021 project has been to generate local scenarios of future climate based on Global Climate Models, which allows to assess the level of risk and the impacts associated with Climate Change in small territories such as an Autonomous Community. These assessments are the basis for the competent authorities to design adaptation plans. For this, it is necessary that all the processes involved are carried out in a scientifically updated and robust manner.

In this way, local and regional climate change scenarios adapted to the sixth report of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) are prepared, and the project also includes the dissemination of results through information and communication technologies.

Objectives

These are the objectives developed by the project:

  • Update of the results obtained from applying “local donwscaling” models using as a basis the results obtained on a global scale from the general circulation models of the IPCC Sixth Assessment Report, with the most current and updated Greenhouse Gas emissions scenarios.
  • Estimation of the impacts produced on the different environmental sectors, through its application to a wide spectrum of climatic variables, by means of models based on geographic parameters that more accurately estimate local climatic variability.
  • Dissemination through the Environmental Information Web Portal of the Regional Ministry by means of a Climate Scenario visualization platform.
