Institutional information

The Foundation for Climate Research is a private non-profit organization established on April 27, 1999, by public deed number 911, executed before the Notary of Madrid Mr. Raúl González Pérez, and registered in the Registry of Foundations of state competence by Ministerial Order of May 25, 2009, with the assigned registration number 72. The registration entails the general interest of its purposes.

The governing body is the Board of Trustees, whose positions, in accordance with the provisions of art. 15.4 of Law 50/2002, on Foundations, are free of charge, and is composed of the following members: President, Jaime Ribalaygua Batalla; Secretary, Beatriz Sanz Bustamante; and Member, Marcos Sánchez Provencio.

The territorial scope to which it is circumscribed is the entire national territory, being its purposes:

a) The protection of the environment with special attention to the problem of climate change.

b) Deepen and broaden scientific knowledge on the functioning and predictability of the climate system and its relations with natural and socioeconomic systems.

c) To deepen and broaden scientific knowledge on issues related to the environment in general.

d) To deepen the knowledge and study of urban structures and their evolution over time in relation to urban and territorial planning strategies, with special attention to aspects linked to climate, meteorology and environment.

e) To elaborate, promote, execute and participate in activities, programs and projects of cooperation for development, especially those related to climate, meteorology and the environment.

f) To disseminate this knowledge in order to contribute to the achievement of an increasingly responsible and conscious society in its relations with nature.

g) Encourage and facilitate the research activities of third parties in the aforementioned areas of knowledge, making the research capacity of the Foundation available to them for the development of their own projects and objectives. Public or private entities may access the services of the Foundation, free of charge or in exchange for economic consideration, benefiting from its infrastructure and experience in research for the best achievement of its objectives, provided that the scientific interest of the same justifies it, at the discretion of the Foundation.

In compliance with Law 50/2002 of December 26, 2002, on Foundations, the Foundation for Climate Research submits its activity to annual control by filing its annual accounts and action plans.
