Education for Sustainable Development and Citizenship
The Foundation for Climate Research (FIC) promotes its Education for Development and Global Citizenship Strategy (EpD-GC) from a transformative, ecosocial and committed to global justice approach. This roadmap connects local challenges with global dynamics, promoting a critical, participatory and co-responsible citizenship in the face of the climate crisis and inequalities.
The strategy hinges on the high added value that FIC brings to the sector, based on a professional profile linked to science, R&D&I and the execution of projects both in Spain and Latin America;
a solid experience in international cooperation; a consolidated track record in education and dissemination of meteorology and climatology. With these pillars, FIC orients its EpD-CG in three strategic axes:
Development of critical thinking around the structural causes of poverty, inequalities and the ecological crisis.
Training of active agents, encouraging their participation in the construction of fairer, more inclusive and sustainable societies.
Mainstreaming values, incorporating human rights, gender equity, cultural diversity, climate justice and transformative economics as foundational principles.
Priority lines of work include: (i) awareness campaigns through social networks; (ii) documentation of experiences of adaptation to climate change with a gender, human rights and migration approach; (iii) alliances with organizations from the North and the Global South to strengthen capacities in EpD-GC; and (iv) active participation in specialized projects in the field of education. Aimed at young people, women in rural environments and key social actors, this strategy reaffirms FIC’s commitment to profound social transformation based on knowledge, collective action and shared responsibility.
